Abstract
This study explores the importance and functionality of partitions in indoor spaces. Partitions go beyond simply separating spaces and play an important role in increasing psychological stability and space efficiency. The quality of life of users can be improved by developing design-attractive furniture while increasing the usability and versatility of indoor space. As a result of analyzing various types of partitions, both fixed and movable partitions have their own strengths and weaknesses and need to be used selectively according to the characteristics and purpose of the space. Through a survey of existing partition designs, existing problems and areas that could be improved were identified. Based on the analysis of previous research, a variable partition with various forms and functions was proposed. The initial prototype was simulated in various actual use situations, and user feedback was collected to verify the actual usability of the design. Based on the feedback and experience gained, I continued to improve and develop the design of the variable partition. The final developed ‘Ladder Shelf’ prototype is a multi-functional furniture that combines the functions of a partition, hanger, and shelf, and showed its usability in modern indoor spaces. I will continue to conduct research and development on partition design for efficient use of indoor space.
