Abstract

This study began in the process of considering various aspects to introduce Virtual Reality(VR) education into Korea, which was created by the technological development of the 4th industrial revolution. VR education at overseas educational institutions is collaborated directly with VR developers to provide VR education content and to build a learning environment. However, domestic VR education is not so. Therefore, in the process of considering the three elements of the object, content, and context from a design perspective in a balanced manner, the purpose of this study is to focus on the object and the content first, and then expand it and proceed to the research to the context. Therefore, first of all, an appropriate target was selected for the VR education pilot project, and research on contents focused on hardware was conducted. So this classifies VR educational contents’ types that VR content developers can provide to domestic educational institutions based on hardware. As a research method, the research on the VR education market was identified through literature surveys and interviews, and an appropriate target selection and content classification criteria were set for the preferential introduction of VR education through domestic and foreign case analysis and comparison. The research results and contents are as follows. First, to improve the quality of education, middle school students who need applied and expanded learning were selected as appropriate subjects. Second, as a result of predicting and classifying the necessary hardware changes when VR technology is introduced, it can be divided into three types of virtual reality education: “AR immersive, VR immersive, and VR experience”. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to further study the learning space according to the content types. Moreover, various types of convergence education are expected to be presented depending on the type of VR education content.
