Abstract
Life satisfaction is considered as one important qualitative indicator used to measure the quality of society as a whole as well as individuals’ overall well-being. Thus, over the past decades, life satisfaction and its importance have received more scholastic and practical attention. In this regard, many previous studies have recognized the importance of defining and assessing life satisfaction as well as examining its determinants. While such existing studies on life satisfaction have focused more on socio-economic factors, social or cultural factors such as social capital have received relatively little attention. Therefore, this study has expanded the current knowledge in the area of life satisfaction by empirically examining the varying determinants of life satisfaction of South Korean focusing on both socio-economic factors and social capital such as trust, reciprocity and social norms. This study uses a data from a survey on ‘public perceptions of the future’ conducted by the National Assembly Futures Institutes in 2020. Findings and implications are discussed.
