게슈탈트 심리학 이론으로 분석한 빈 분리파 작품 형식 연구 - 콜로만 모저의 작품과 작가 미상의 그래픽 작품들을 중심으로

This study analyzes the graphic works of Coloman Moser, one of the representative artists of the Vienna Secession, and other members of the Vienna Secession, in order to analyze the role and interaction of visual elements that guide the eye in the process of form perception and representation, and to analyze their original forms. The Viennese Secessionists, in response to the corrupt Viennese art world at the end of the 19th century, erased the distinction between high and low art through the collaboration of artists, craftsmen, industrialists, and merchants. They created new genres and concepts by fusing genres of art and combining different elements into a single concept of holistic art. This research consists of a theoretical study that explores the context of Gestalt psychology and the Vienna Secession, and a case study that analyzes the works of the Vienna Secession. The analysis of the works centers on the graphic form of Coloman Moser's and other Vienna Secessionist artists' graphic works, which heavily utilize geometric shapes, and involves a scientific approach that identifies commonalities between the works and applies Gestalt psychology concepts based on visual perception and cognitive psychology. The study found that in the works of the Vienna Secessionists, two laws coexist in most of the works, driven by the color or lightness contrasts of the visual elements and patterns, and that the overlapping laws were: two laws of foreground and background, three laws of closure, and one law of simplification, out of 10 works. In the process of perceiving the laws, we found that visual perception is shaped by color and the proximity of elements. There are few studies that analyze empty separation waves based on cognitive psychology such as Gestalt psychology, and this study aims to present a case that can be viewed and understood from the perspective of psychology, rather than the existing research method that focuses on sculptural characteristics and subjective interpretation.
