Abstract
Based on the fact that there has been a lack of research on the relationship between individual motive and job stress in the public sector, The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of public service motivation as an intrinsic motive and pay as an extrinsic motive on the job stress of public employees and to analyze the moderating effect of group culture in the relationship between them. To summarize the analysis results, first, as expected, public service motivation was found to have a significant effect in reducing the job stress of public employees. Second, as expected, pay was also found to have a negative effect on public employees' job stress. In other words, the more public employees perceive their pay to be appropriate, the lower their job stress is. Third, it was found that group culture had a moderating effect in strengthening the relationship between public service motivation and pay in reducing the job stress of public employees. Lastly, among the control variables, the type of organization, gender, rank, workload, and work environment were found to have a statistically significant effect on the job stress of public employees. In other words, public employees working in central administrative agencies rather than local governments, male public employees more than female public employees, and public employees who are satisfied with their work environment have lower job stress, while higher-ranking public employees and public employees who perceive their workload to be heavy have higher job stress.
