Abstract

Huge volumes of data are being created in both public and private sectors. Big data, generally defined as dataset whose size is beyond the ability of typical database software tools to manage and analyze, not only provide significant benefit but come up with a variety of dysfunctions. The unprecedented data-related phenomena ask for new approach to the way how to deal with data especially in the public arena. This paper examines the potential value and risks that big data can create and have to manage as well. It also explores what organizations and policy makers need to do to deal with challenges and concerns that big data pose in public sectors.
