Abstract

As digital technology continues to evolve today, digital signage, which has emerged in the new media environment, has also made a big difference in modern living conditions. In the form of a display for one-sided advertising promotion, the digital kiosk type applied with the concept of interaction that enables exchange of information and communication with customers emerged, providing an opportunity for choice through user participation. The purpose of this study was to identify the interaction characteristics of Kiosk in Korea and Japan, which are operated for information transmission in public places, surrounding cities, and outlying areas. The scope of the research was analyzed for characteristics of user interaction based on kiosks for information service in Korea and Japan. Elements mentioned by leading researchers studying interaction design based on human interaction type and between human and environment in Richard Buchanan's interaction type were selected as visual, content, and behavioral inducements to analyze interaction characteristics of digital kiosks, and the factors of interaction were analyzed based on the case of representative companies that produce kiosks in Korea and Japan. As a result, both Korea and Japan have similar visual elements, but there have been differences in content and action inducement, and Korean kiosks have found that content elements need improvement. Thus, this study intended to establish a basic data for activating the use of kiosks in order to establish an environment where users can receive information they want without restrictions on users even in unfamiliar places.
