Abstract

This study aims to suggest fundamental value and identity on crafts, design, and arts fields by establishing individual concepts, establish fused concepts between each field, and analyze the characteristics of newly classified industries. For this purpose, 12 craftsmen, 10 designers, and 8 artists, 30 professionals in total participated in the study. Group discussion, affinity method, keyword method using brainstorming and brain-relay, visual imaging, and in-depth content analysis were applied as research methods.
As the result of analyzing calculation from fused fields, 12 classifications of industries, which fused crafts, design, and arts, were established. Six types with fusion of two fields are as follows.
First, fusion of crafts and design is classified into industrial types of 'design crafts' and 'craft design.' Second, fusion of crafts and arts is classified into industrial types of 'artistic crafts' and 'craft arts.' Third, fusion of design and arts is classified into industrial types of 'design arts' and 'artistic design.' Fourth, fused concepts of crafts, design, and arts are classified into six industrial types: artistic-design craft, design-artistic crafts, artistic-craft design, craft-artistic design, design-craft arts, and craft-design arts.
Firmly classified and fused concepts of crafts, design, and arts may result intentionally planned results of fusion. Thus, one shall seek method to fuse them in accurate understanding on the unique characteristics and essence of each field, as well as mutual cooperation among them.
