Abstract
This study presents a range of methods to increase the supply of the public rental housing, by exploring the possibilities in Seoul. The new land development is confronted with the lack of the sites, and the large-scale housing redevelopments get slowed down due to the economic recession. New strategies are required to provide stable supplies of affordable housings for the low-income groups. A viable alternative could be the customized development in low-use public lands scattered in the residential areas. The priority of development should consider deterioration of existing facilities, positive effects after the development, and possibility of the development capacity in the public lands that can be mix-used. It is necessary to establish the management system for the public lands as well as to find new business models for the low-use public lands.
