Abstract
This paper attempts to estimate the economic benefits of double-lined water supply system using a specific case of Gumi area. The economic benefits of double-lined water supply system are those of improving supply reliability and avoiding supply shortage of water. To this end, we apply the contingent valuation method to estimate the economic benefits of supply reliability. Householders were willing to contribute 4.28 billion won per household per year, and firms were willing to pay 1.11 billion won for improving water service. In addition, we apply the choice experiment to estimate the economic benefits of avoiding supply shortage. Householders were willing to pay 1.53 billion won, and firms were willing to pay 1.64 billion won for avoiding 6 hours cutting off the water. These results could be used in cost-benefit analysis of Double-lined water supply system in Gumi.
