Abstract

This paper examines the trend of the education policy that tried to link technology and university education under the viewpoint of a forced education reform, and critically observe the birth of the ‘Digital Humanities’, which have intended to coexist with technology and humanities. This research focuses more specifically on a reconciliation between university education and new technology that specifies as the ‘Digital Humanities’ that the Korean Research Foundation has launched officially in 2014 when it started supporting the academic projects. In other words, by detailing the topological status of the digital humanities, this paper examines how the status of technology in our university education should be sustained. It is obvious that the ‘Digital Humanities’ lies on the web of the confusion of the past educational policies that have promoted the unstable links between the university education and media technology. The difference between the present and the past is that the contemporary reality of our education is greatly influenced under the global academic field, and the integration logic of technology and the educational sphere has been also denser than ever. The future potential of the academic scholarship is under either a sign of hope or not. This study aims to place the Digital Humanities under the genealogy of the domestic university reform and look at its inherent problems and new possibilities at the same time. In conclusion, this study suggests that we need to redefine the radical and reflective virtues of technology.
