Abstract
In the domestic power generation sector, private liquefied natural gas (LNG)-importing companies have secured cost competitiveness by importing low-priced LNG compared to Korea Gas Corporation. Nonetheless, there are no studies on the factors the private companies consider when entering into LNG sale and purchase agreement. In this study, the determinants of direct imports of LNG by private companies in Korea were analyzed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process and Fuzzy Set Theory. The analysis shows that contract price is the most important factors for consideration, followed by he reliability of supplier and guarantee of supply. Thus, the government needs to promote the direct imports of LNG by private companies through various policies. On the other hand, contract duration, project progress and destination restrictions were found to be relatively low in importance. Therefore, direct companies should consider not only ways to maximize competitiveness using the buyer's market, but also how to respond to unexpected situations.
