Abstract

This research aims to classify UAM (Urban Air Mobility) vertiport cases into "Greenfield" newly constructed in undeveloped areas and "Retrofit" types expanded from existing buildings, deriving the planning characteristics of each type. To achieve this, case analyses were conducted on 33 vertiports presented by mobility companies, transportation platforms, and architectural design industries as of 2023, focusing on detailed program and site type aspects. Additionally, the strengths and weaknesses of the approaches of Greenfield and Retrofit vertiports, as well as the characteristics of six detailed plans for each vertiport type, were further analyzed. The case analysis results suggest that the strengths and weaknesses of Greenfield and Retrofit types can be presented as Greenfield types with high scalability and Retrofit types that maximize accessibility based on connectivity. Considering these pros and cons, it is anticipated that future vertiport planning will require consideration of SWOT analysis in the design phase based on the site type.
