Abstract
The present study suggests a ‘critical inquiry of cultural studies upon technology and information’(CICSTech), beyond both the often techno-centric descriptions in IT analyses and groundless optimism about media users. In theory, CICSTech has to include the perspective which enables us to disclose socioculturally over-determined and detailed contexts, while it embraces the theoretical tradition of the ‘critical’ cultural studies with regard to interpreting the subjects. In addition to these two theretical attitudes, CICSTech requires the practical attitude mapping the alternatives beyond a given horizon of the dominant IT realities. In other words, CICSTech should be based upon practical and interventionist research observing cultural-political potentials of everyday technology and media. In conclusion, this paper identifies new trends of CICSTech and estimates the expandable areas of future research, through conducting the theoretical-analytic-practical interventions to technology-information culture.
