Abstract
This study examines corporate environmental behavior in voluntary environmental programs (VEP) in which firms voluntarily protect the environment beyond regulatory mandates. This voluntary environmental behavior gains much attention from scholars because it is contradictory to the traditional belief that firms not voluntarily undertake environmental actions without being mandated by laws. This study evaluates firms’ motives for environmental participation and their environmental performance in VEP by reviewing and analyzing literature and theories, including neo-institutional, resource dependent, and diffusion.
