Abstract
I carry out an empirical analysis of whether labor-management partnership delivers mutual gains to employers, workers and trade unions, using the Korean Workplace Panel Data surveyed by Korea Labor Institute. I employ fixed-effect models to account for the time-invariant endogenous variables. The dependent variables are productivity and profitability as employers' interest, wage and employment as workers' interest, and unionization as trade unions' interest. The variable of labor-management partnership is constructed out of employee involvement and union participation variables. The results of this study partially support the mutual gain of labor-management partnership. Labor-management partnership has significantly positive effects on productivity and employment. It also has a negative effect on wage increase rate with weak significance levels. However, labor-management partnership does not have positive or negative effects on profitability and unionization. Finally we outline the results of empirical analysis and discuss their implications.
