Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify spectatorship factors of the elderly and their revisit intentions according to their individual characteristics in professional sports events. The present study is one of the first efforts to examine the relationships between spectatorship factors and individual characteristics for the elderly in professional sports events. Subjects (N=242) were spectators who attended professional sports events (baseball, soccer, and golf) by using the convenience sampling technique. A questionnaire was passed out to spectators before and during game intermissions. A series of t-test and ANOVA revealed that spectators' spectatorship factors and intention to revisit are significantly different based on socio-demographic variables. The current study demonstrates that management of professional sport events should consider spectators' spectatorship factors and intention to revisit as well as socio-demographic backgrounds of spectators in formulating and implementing marketing strategies. The data were recorded and analyzed using the SPSS 17.0 statistical computer package. Results are discussed in detail, and implications for practice and for future research are suggested.
