Abstract
Background : The number of multicultural families is increasing, but many multicultural students are having difficulty learning, realizing the educational gap with other students. In addition, as most schools conducted online classes due to COVID-19, multicultural students were put in the blind spot of basic education. In order to raise their education level, customized education is effective, but policy support has limitations. This study sought ways to provide continuous and effective education to multicultural students through pre-matching and follow-up management beyond mentoring in consideration of various participants in multicultural student mentoring, which is a customized education.
Methods : In this study, the current status and problems of educational support for multicultural students were first investigated through a previous research survey, and then a stakeholder research was conducted. In order to consider various service participants, a stakeholder map was created based on desk research and in-depth interviews with stakeholders were conducted to identify detailed needs and pain points. After that, functions were specified through personas and travel maps, and an integrated service design plan was derived.
Results : As a result of the study, pain points such as difficulty in learning, low information accessibility, and dissatisfaction with mentoring matching were identified. Accordingly, three key service directions (mentoring matching and search, real-time learning management, and exchange community) for an integrated mentoring service that can connect key stakeholders of the service were implemented as a prototype.
Conclusions : This study presented the direction of a customized mentoring service plan by applying a design methodology centered on user experience to help multicultural students with the educational gap problem. It is hoped that the results of this study can be used as basic data for the development of customized education services for multicultural students in the future.
