Abstract
It assumes that many public administration students select public administration as a major in considering the connection between their major and job in order to advance into the public sector. But, there is still insufficient empirical research on the relationship between the university life and the employment of public administration students, such as whether this motivation for choosing a major is true, whether students are satisfied with their major, whether they find a workplace matching with their major, and whether they are satisfied with workplaces. This study uses a sample of public administration graduates(N=1,103) from the ‘Graduate Occupational Mobility Survey’ conducted for four years from 2017 to 2020 to empirically analyze the relationship among major selection motivation, major satisfaction, major-job congruence employment, and workplace satisfaction of public administration students at four-year universities, and to obtain implications for public administration education. The results of the analysis show that students who chose their major based on intrinsic motivations such as their aptitude and interest have the higher satisfaction with their major, and major satisfaction has a positive effect on employment that matches their major and job, and the more their major and job matched, the higher their workplace satisfaction. Based on the analysis results of the study, it discusses implications and suggestions for public administration education.
