Abstract
The purpose of this study is to verify the relationship between college students' Instagram usage behavior and body surveillance, body shame, and self-esteem. The last 213 people’s data was used for analysis in this study using the Google survey. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and structural model analysis were conducted, and the following are the primary research findings. First, body surveillance rose as college students' Instagram photo editing and writing behavior increased, and the influence of photo editing was discovered to be particularly powerful at this time. Second, college students’ body shame was the only one that increased through reading behavior among Instagram usage behavior. In addition, Instagram writing and photo editing behavior were found to increase body shame by mediating body surveillance. Third, it was found that college students' Instagram reading lowered their self-esteem by mediating body shame. Furthermore, body shame was discovered to be the most significant factor affecting college students' self-esteem. Through the above results, it was confirmed that the use behavior of a specific Instagram not only strengthens the objectified body consciousness of college students but also affects the reduction of self-esteem. This study suggests that it is necessary to explore and apply positive intervention factors for the formation of objectified body consciousness in the future.
