Abstract

Grip plays an important role in stabilizing the position and rethinking about the motion effectiveness in performing lifting movement. With these reasons, lot of athletes uses straps. However, relying on assist device could lead to weakening of the muscle and impractical movement which could lead to loosing the purpose of working out. Therefore, this study will be about when and how much load would be ideal to use straps since there was not much studies done about it. Therefore, this study would suggest a basis for the ideal and effective point to use straps when performing over babel low gesture in weight training by going through electromyogram(EMG) test with and without straps while performing the gesture. Through EMG, we found out how muscle use by load appeared, and the result was an average 17% and 13% improvement in efficiency in 1rm-40% and 1rm-70% sections. However, the 100% section showed an increase in efficiency of -1% to +3% except for one subject. Prior to the experiment, the use of straps was expected to increase efficiency across all sections, but on average, over 1rm-70% of the sections showed inefficiency or rather degrading results. The degradation of efficiency in the 1rm-100% section by any factor is a part of further study that needs to be seen, but it may be wrong to expect the use of the strap to be helpful under any conditions.
