Abstract
Traditional awareness within design continues to change depending on contemporary contexts. Today, with the introduction of new technology and changes to business environments, the design field has not only experienced inner change but has also experienced “social” demands for change as well.
The notion of design has become an even broader public experience. Many companies and organizations these days are wholeheartedly accepting design in terms of the business environment.
There are some tendencies these days in the way design is regarded as a way of thinking. ‘Design thinking’ in management is an example of this. ‘User-centered’ approaches in creativity in the hands of untrained designers can also be regarded in this way. This new situation seems to stress design methodology.
This paper describes design activities as proof of unique technology and content within design. It also explores the dichotomy between design practice and design research. A proposal of these issues will be raised not only for professional practitioners but also for various design disciplines in an effort to identify this nature in an ever converging era.
