Abstract
This review paper critically examines prominent topics currently discussed in the field of digital government to spur academic discussion and provide future research agendas. This paper addresses two interconnected themes: data-driven administration and artificial intelligence (AI), critical topics in both research and practice within the current digital government study domain. There has been a rapid increase in discussions regarding data usage and the implementation of AI technologies in the public sector alongside digital transformation. In this context, the government in South Korea aims to proactively adapt by advocating for a digital platform government. This paper reviews these themes by dividing them into three main topics and discussing each under three categories: current status and recent research, debates and challenges, and future research agenda. Topics are data-driven administration, the adoption of AI technologies in public services, and the future of digital platform governance. The review encompasses two principal dimensions: the technological advancement of e-government through data and algorithms towards AI, and the governance evolution of e-government towards an interactive and intermediary platform.
