Abstract

This study examines the tensions arising from the current SNS(Social Networking Service) culture between the dominant power of the present government and the autonomous political subjects from below. It does so by observing the new political subjects named the ‘digital generation’ or ‘2040 generation’; theoretically, based on the social formation of technology, this study explores that, even in the seemingly rigid code of control, political tension exists between the codification of power and the rearrangement by intervention of human agents. Especially, this study notes the combinative group of the generations, which consist of ‘New Generation’, ‘IMF Generation’ and ‘Chotbul (candlelight vigil protest) Generation’. This study investigates that a combinative power of the ‘2040 Generation’ originates from the precarious job conditions as temporary staffs or contract workers, being trapped at the bottom of the pay scale, and thus embittered by their broken dream. This study concludes that social media or the SNS platform in Korea can be considered as an active public sphere which informs us the suppressive actions of power, affects the traditional media journalism, and enables the digital 2040 generation to be united emotionally.
