Abstract
This paper deals with the relation between the RussianRevolution and the constructivism from the perspective ofthe revolution of the sensation. Constructivists were awareof the correspondence between the revolution of the sensationstemming from the avant-garde art and the RussianRevolution in 1917. Constructivism aimed to change lifestyle the mass by materializing the revolution of thesensation into architectural space. Especially, the intentionof making architectural space into a social condenser summedit up. In addition, constructivists’ experiments that weredone under the Russian Revolution’s influence created notonly new ‘contents’ of architecture like mechanical functionsand social functions, but also new styles of expression inarchitecture like shape and style of building. The expressionof dynamism through the geometrism and diagonal line, andde-territorial forms were the essence of this new style ofexpression. However, these experiments of revolutionaryarchitecture and the revolution of the sensation ceased and‘failed’ in the 1930s. The main cause of this failure was thatnot only the mass but also many politicians and other artistscould not accept the new sensation. The cease of the revolution of the sensation meant the cease of socialrevolution in Russia. The history of Russian constructivismshows that social revolution cannot exist without therevolution of the sensation.
