Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate the actual condition of marathon participants' taping usage. The 317 participants among 1000 participants who participated in 3 marathon events held in Daegu & Gyeongbuk for 2007-2008 were selected for this research. They have ever heard of taping and have participated in marathon events at least 3 times. The results summarized are as follows. First, taping usage rate among the 317 participants was 66.6%. men's and women's usage rate was 68.8% and 55.6%, respectively. and taping usage rate in their 40s was the highest(74.8%) and also, half course participants' taping usage rate was the highest(85.1%). Second, pain relief was the highest(52.9%) as the cause of taping usage and the highest reason why they didn't use taping was their lack of taping experience(62.1%). Third, The majority of 317 participants(78.5%) said that taping was necessary. Especially, necessity of taping was the highest rate in their 40s(84.9%) and half course participants(91.9%). Based on these results, it can be suggested that proper education and public information on
taping are more needed for amateur marathoner.
