Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the possibility of an alternative administrative institution for interscholastic sports in Korean high school education system. To achieve this purpose, this study analyzed the administrative institutions for high school interscholastic sports clubs in the U.S. (e.g., National Federation of State High School Associations and State High School Athletic Associations). The researchers utilized data resources obtained from expert in-depth interviews and open institutional data resources (e.g., handbooks, manuals, and constitutions/bylaws). The present study could be understood as an overview of major administrative institutions based on an analysis of their functions, interrelations, and current state. The institutional efforts to resolve key issues, such as preventing overuse injuries in student athletes and guaranteeing them learning rights, were chiefly reviewed. The applicability of key U.S. institutions in Korea was also discussed.
