Abstract

Recently, the redefinition of sustainable architecture has led to higher interest in Restorative Environmental Design for the built environment, considering the relationship between human beings, architectures and the nature. Biophilic design, which induces direct or indirect connection of human and nature, is an important design method in Restorative Environment Design. This study aims to represent the need for empirical research for application of biophilic design on spaces based on analysis of theoretical prior studies. Also, it considers the restorative effects on human psychology in the architectural spaces from biophilic design elements and patterns and examines the represented characteristics in the architectures through the case studies which are built in 21C with a keyword, ‘biophilic design’. Through this study, it propose the goals for future architecture and the possibilities of representing a new concept of sustainable architecture considering the relationships between human beings, architectures and nature.
