Abstract

An effectivity of temperature control in an actual agricultural warehouse was empirically investigated under the operating modes of defrosting and cooling of a refrigerator by installing an auxiliary duct connected to the exhaust of the refrigerator. A total of 31 temperature sensors were installed horizontally and vertically on the inside of the whole storage as well as near the refrigerator. Then, the temporal and spatial variations of the temperatures were analyzed to assess the effect of the auxiliary duct. The result shows that the auxiliary duct reduces the maximum rising temperature at the operation of the defrosting heater and reduces the temperature more rapidly at the subsequent operation of the cooling mode. For the periodic cooling cycles, the lengthier period and shorter operating duration of the refrigerator is achieved by installing the auxiliary duct. Additionally, the air temperatures prevail closer to the control temperature and are more uniformly distributed inside the semi-low temperature warehouse, which may reduce the damage of agricultural products during the cooling mode.
