Abstract

In the present work, a machine vision system using a color recognition method has been developed to automatically sort out specified materials from waste plastics mixed. The system is based on a program controlled by a image processing algorithms, consists of a CCD (Charge-coupled device) camera, light sources, a frame grabber, conveying devices and an air-nozzle ejector. The ejectors designed to be operated by an I/O interface communication with a hardware controller. In the actual operational tests of the system, the recovery rates in the separation of mixture of color PET bottles (Clear, Brown, Green) with more than 95% were obtained at a conveyor belt speed of 120 n/min. As a result of tests, the system was also proven to be excellent with separation efficiencies of > 96.5%. Therefore, it is expected that the system could be used in commercial scale for recycling industrials if an automatic sorting system at high throughput could be obtained.
