Abstract
In the present work, a machine vision system using a color recognition method has been developed to automatically sort out specified materials from waste glass bottles, and environment assessment is also carried out during operation of the automatic color sorting system. Capacity of the automatic color sorting system was maximum 3.0 ton/hr at a glass bottle size of Ø35 ~ 55 mm. In the actual operational tests of the system, the recovery ratio and purity of the color glass bottles (Clean, Brown, Green) with more than 97.0% and 97.4% were obtained. As a result of tests, the system was also proven to be excellent with separation efficiencies of > 95.0%. The levels of noise, vibration and particulate emission were below material standard regulatory limits. Therefore, it is expected that the system could be used in commercial scale for glass recycling industrials if an automatic color sorting system at high throughput could be obtained.
