Abstract
Chogong Bonpoori is one of the main epic of the Jeju shaman rituals. The form of description has some characteristics as follows;
(1) Symmetrical composition as a whole and uprising ending (2) The story is made of up of a list of four episodes and the end of each episode imply the production such as pregnancy or delivery.
(3) Emphasizing earthly hardships and transcendental solutions and horizontal structure.
Three formal characteristics correspondent to the contents features as follows;
(1') Symmetrical composition - female initiation as suffering and growth, male initiation as state ezamination and son confirmation (2') Four episodes of pregnancy and delivery - wishful charm for affluence, prerequisted by sacrifice of Nogadanpoong Agissi. An insight that life need killing for the sake of life itself.
(3') Horizontal structure of transcendental space and real life space and the space of death - existential human state of human life on earth, reach of death, directivity to transcendental value.
These elements consist of multi-layered meaning. When you do not get understanding on some part, you can grasp it another layer. And all of the layer make the work complete.
