Abstract

With the rapid aging of society in recent years, the population structure of the society as well as the traditional family has changed, and many social systems and services such as housing, education, culture, and welfare are required to change. In particular, it is predicted that demand, environment, and goals of education will change rapidly, personalized education, and education through community and society. In addition, as the paradigm shifts in design education, there is a growing interest in design education as a medium of citizen education as well as a responsible attitude toward society and the world, communication and mutual respect between generations and cultures. Therefore, we investigated the actual condition of design education for citizens and proposed the development project in the future. To do this, we analyzed the data of <2016 Seoul Design Survey> and examined the operation of the Citizen Design Education Program in Seoul. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, Citizen's design education in Seoul is supplied with infrastructure and services in the public domain, and the correlation between the quantitative supply and the rate of experience of local residents is low. Therefore, a plan should be prepared to overcome the existing one - way education service pattern. Second, the expansion of education for elders is required, considering the decreasing school age population of Seoul and the trend of aging. Third, it is required to develop various educational contents considering the demand of citizens for design activities. First of all, in order for design education to function as a means of citizen education, it is necessary to have a philosophy of autonomy, communication, and solidarity at the top level. For this purpose, it is necessary to make a change to education that requires voluntary participation and communication between the educator and the participants.
