Abstract
Safety techniques for the excavation of large-span tunnel such as multi-face excavation and minimizing advance length per a excavation round are widely used in Korean empirical tunnelling experiences. The pre-supported tunnelling method which is the technique of strengthening the ground ahead of the tunnel working face has been used recently for improving safety and efficiency of those old empirical tunnelling. This paper discusses the approach using analytical method and numerical analysis for the practical application of the increased advance length by pre-supported tunnelling method to a large-span tunnel site and the result of the application that is verified from the site monitoring data which were recorded through the improved excavation cycle of the increased advance length per a excavation round.
