Abstract
Demand for BIM which is based on accurate and objective building information to reduce the gap and error between construction divisions via simulations, and to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of construction project has escalated. Yet, current MEP design practices, which claim that they apply BIM, have not been successful in improving productivity and efficiency of quantity take-off, cost, and maintenance, because most practices still manually build 3D geometry models by interpreting 2D drawings. In order to propagate practical and productive applications of BIM over actual MEP design practice, this study suggested BIM mechanical design process and level of modeling detail, both of which were in accordance with actual MEP design phase. A pilot project where the suggested design process and modeling details were applied was also presented.
