Abstract
This study was intended to systematically explain the relationships among learners' psychological factors, participatory behaviors, and learning outcomes within social media learning environment. In this study, personality, self-regulations, and epistemological beliefs were considered as psychological factors; the level and the frequency of participation, and other students reactions on participation were included as participatory behaviors; motivation, satisfaction on social network learning environment, and academic achievement were included as learning outcomes. The study was conducted for total 106 college students who took the general education course across four different classes. The results of canonical correlation analysis suggested that the increase of behavior regulation was related to the improvement of participatory level and motivational regulation was related to participatory frequency. As the tendency of motivational regulation was stronger, the level of satisfaction on social learning environment was increased; as the belief of learning ability was stronger, the level of satisfaction on social learning environment was decreased; as the participatory level was decreased, achievement level was decreased as well. Based on the results of this study, it could be told that the instructors and the instructional designers should more focus on the learners psychological characteristics and participatory behaviors in the use of social network learning environment for higher education settings.
