Abstract

Background: Since Brian O'Doherty embodied the concept of the White Cube, an exhibition method using white walls in the 20th century, there have been considerable changes in exhibition culture so far. The biggest change among them is due to a variety of social influences, such as the spread of social networks, moving from analog to digital. This study starts with a look at today's phenomenon and causes of the popularization of exhibition culture. Methods: This study assumes the hypothesis that the digital environment, especially social network, is deeply related to exhibition culture and takes a way of demonstrating it. In other words, I would like to explain through literature research and case studies that the traditional white cube exhibition culture has changed in a new technological environment. Result: Various causes affect the change in exhibition culture included changing public perception, diversification of exhibitions, and expansion of SNS due to changes in technical conditions. Among them, a study based on the hypothesis that the emergence of certification culture due to the expansion of SNS will have a significant impact on the change in exhibition culture, actually affected exhibition planning and display as well as in terms of exhibition visitors. Conclusion: Currently, a growing number of art galleries are planning exhibitions using photo zones and allowing filming. It also plans various media-specific exhibition spaces. We have identified the possibility that factors such as the spread of SNS, which influenced the changes in wartime culture, will accelerate changes in exhibition planning and displays in the future, and suggest the need for continuous research on how to reflect them.
