Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a usability assessment scale based on key behavior exhibited by users of standard manual wheelchairs, widely used by persons with physical disabilities or cerebral palsy in the early stage. The items of the usability assessment scale were developed based on literature review, including domestic and international research articles, standard specifications, and manuals on the use and manufacturing of wheelchairs. Detailed items under the developed assessment scale were modified through an expert review. The results showed that the major items of the usability assessment scale were ease of learning, minimization of error, ease of memorization, efficiency, and satisfaction. The detailed items were convenient controls, objective elements, reduced risk of falling, prevention of body parts getting caught in the wheelchair, efficiency of controls, proper posture, physical adequacy, convenience, and external satisfaction.
