Abstract

Building energy analysis is crucial for the application of a hydrothermal heat pump in a building's HVAC system. In this study, two building energy analysis programs, ECO2 and HSID (Hydrothermal System Integrated Design), were used to simulate the energy performance of a non-residential building, and their results were compared. The HSID program predicted a 38.9% higher building cooling and heating load than the ECO2 program. Regarding annual heating and cooling energy consumption, the HSID and ECO2 programs calculated 107.1 kWh/m2·yr and 42.1 kWh/m2·yr, respectively, revealing a significant difference between the two. The discrepancy in simulation results was attributed to differences in the simulation methods, building input variables, and the HVAC system modeling capabilities of the two programs. Even for buildings with high insulation performance, achieving ZEB (Zero Energy Building) certification was not possible by applying only the hydrothermal heat pump HVAC system. While improvements in COP and reductions in pump power consumption could increase the energy independence rate, it was confirmed that the additional integration of renewable energy sources is necessary to achieve ZEB certification.
