Abstract
One problem of the numerical models widely used is that the models are very complicated and mobilize too specific model assumptions. The result is that it is not always easy to understand and theorize the findings of those models. We study the welfare function as used in the models a la Anas and Kim (1996) and provide an abbreviated analytical form of the first-order derivative of the welfare function with respect to various policy instruments. Using the analytical form derived, we demonstrate how the methodology might be used in the analysis of urban spatial economic issues.
