Abstract
Smart manufacturing, a new paradigm in the manufacturing industry, is leading innovation in the manufacturing industry through the convergence of traditional manufacturing technologies and cutting-edge ICT technologies. This research aims to identify core topics of smart manufacturing in national R&D and uncover the actor-wise characteristics. The 20 R&D topics of smart manufacturing are identified through LDA topic modeling from the research proposals of 3,502 national R&D projects. The identified topics are categorized into five sectors: application, platform, device/network, interoperability/security, and manufacturing R&D. We then propose cooperation strategies between innovation actors to improve smart manufacturing R&D performance. The findings of this study is expected to provide useful implications for policy making in smart manufacturing.
