Abstract

In recent years, the process of education for engineering, industrial design, business administration, etc. has been expanded in order to train engineers with creative problem-solving abilities. The continuing discussion in the design education of engineering college is Design Process in industrial design field which is planning, investigation, analysis, synthesis, evaluation to recognize problem situation. However, given the fact that industrial designers use the sketches actively in the design process and connect the collected data and create unique forms through them, the content of the sketch of industrial design field is not sufficiently emphasized in the curriculum of convergence education in the engineering field. Therefore, in this study, it is considered that students of Engineering major are not good at sketching of Design Process, and I propose a sketch learning model by grasping the skill through the sketch test for engineering students. Based on the literature, I have studied the characteristics of sketching education in industrial design and engineering. After then, I studied the sketch education cases in industrial design, engineering, and architecture. So, this study suggests a first sketch learning model and modified second learning model by evaluating the sketch test data for 1st and 2nd grade students in the engineering major. I hope that it will be used as a means to spread new ideas by proposing a learning model to students of engineering majors in order to acquire sketching ability in industrial design field.
