Abstract
The relationship between dry eye exam (TBUT, Schirmer, and McMonnies test) and surface temperature rates of eyeball and those of upper lid were investigated. Total of 35 healthy subjects (n=70) with no eye diseases participated in this study. Ocular surface and upper lid temperatures were measured with thermal camera (FLIR A325SC, Answer co., USA) and tear break up time (TBUT), Schirmer test and McMonnies Questionnaire were proceeded. As a result, the temperature rate of ocular surface over time was correlated strongly with TBUT, Schirmer test results. With increasing surface temperature rates, the tear break-up time and Shirmer paper wet lenghth were shortened. However, McMonnies test results were not correlated with ocular surface temperature rate. Method of ocular surface temperatre rates by thermal camera is simple, easy, and user friendly. In conclusions, thermography measuring ocular surface temperature rates can be considered as a new objective method to determine dry eyes.
