Abstract
The Anseong Municipal Namsadang Baudeogi Pungmuldan (AMNBP), established by Anseong City in 2002, has given a Pungmul performace free of charge every Saturday from April to October attracting a number of people and letting them know our traditional culture through Namsang Noli. This paper attempts to measure the non-market value of AMNBP. For the end, the dichotomous choice contingent valuation method is applied. In particular, recently proposed one-and-one-half bound model that reduces the potential for response bias in the double bound model while maintaining much of its efficiency. We surveyed a randomly selected sample of 200 and 376 households in the Anseong City and the Metropolitan area, respectively and asked respondents questions in person-to-person interviews about how much they would willing to pay for the AMNBP. Household monthly income tax and an adult's entrance fee for AMNBP's performance hall were used for a payment vehicle in the cases of Anseong City and the Metropoltan area, respectively. The aggregate values of the AMNBP in the Anseong City and the Metropolitan area amount to approximately 1.6 to 2.2 billion won and 28.1 to 34.6 billion won, respectively, per year. Thus, the total annual non-market value is estimated as 29.7 to 36.8 billion won. This outweighs the operating and maintaining cost for the AMNBP (2.1 billion won per year), which implies that the non-market value of the AMNBP is considerable.
