Abstract

Purpose: To develop soft contact lens for controlled and extended release of drugs to treat eye-related disease Methods: Release rate of hydrophilic dyes or drug (ciprofloxacin) were controlled using thermosensitive polymer as a medium. Released drug amount from created contact lens were measured by UV-visible spectrophotometer Results: Created HEMA hydrogel with dye-PF127 demonstrated more controlled and extended release of dye than dye release from eye drop type solution. Using thermosensitive polymer, initial burst of drug and release rate were regulated. Especially, hydrophilic ciprofloxacin was released from designed HEMA hydrogel for max. 250 hours (approx. 10days). Conclusion: Functional soft contact lens were developed for sustained drug release consisting of thermosensitive polymer that delivered hydrophilic drug for 10 days to treat eye disease.
