Abstract
A new geothermal heat pump system that could control ground loop flow rate was developed by installing a variable volume ground loop pump. It could manage ground loop water temperature by installing a ground loop buffer tank to maintain water temperature within a fixed range by promoting turbulence crossflow. This new system could minimize peak loads when resuming operations after a pause. It could increase the system"s cooling and heating efficiency by lowering the EWT during cooling and raising the EWT during heating. This new system consumes 15.8% less electricity than the base system for cooling and increases the cooling system"s COP by an average of 21.7%. Additionally, it consumes 8.4% less electricity than the base system for heating and increases the heating system"s COP by an average of 14.5%.
