Abstract
Trains on high-density urban railway lines are frequently delayed by increasing passenger numbers in peak hours, and the delays affect the punctuality of headway. A decrease in the punctuality of headway means a decrease of train operation capacity and increase of passenger wait time. This study proposed a headway punctuality evaluation index for urban railway stations using train operation data and case study results for Line No. 2 in Seoul metropolitan area. As a result, it is determined that the headway punctuality of the section between Seongsu and Gangnam is relatively poor. Especially, the headway punctuality at Samsung, Jamsilnaru and Konkuk University stations were the highest at 13%. This means that the efficiency of train operation is lowered by about 13%, and it is necessary to prepare alternatives in terms of train operation to ensure punctuality in these sections.
