Abstract
Overcrowding not only reduces passenger comfort but also hinders the operation of public transportation systems. Currently, in South Korea, research is aimed at reducing train headways to alleviate overcrowding issues in urban railways. However, most studies focus on reducing train headways, resulting in insufficient research on behavioral aspects in response to these changes. Accordingly, to reduce inconvenience of passengers due to crowded trains, research on Willingness to Wait (WTW). the behavior of waiting for the next, less crowded train to alleviate passenger discomfort. is needed, hi tills study, a train choice model is established by conducting a stated preference survey of 971 urban railway passengers to identify variables affecting WTW and WTW changes are analyzed according to trip purpose. As a result of the analysis, it is confirmed that WTW varies depending on the level of congestion in the train and the purpose of the trip.
