Abstract

In this paper I narrate about the nature-oriented trend of Oh, Young-soo’s fictions. Oh wrote those fictions before ecology and ecological ideology have not spreaded widely yet. Many people said that Oh’s fictions were “purely compassionate”, “lyricism”, “friendly tribal world”, “anti-civilization”. According to an ecological perspective we can re-evaluate the worth of Oh’s fictions. Nature was main setting and important space in Oh’s fictions. And there were many nature oriented characters. We can find basic sauces of ecological ideology. But we can not argue that Oh did reach the first grade of ecological literature. Because those works were created by his unconsciousness. His late fiction “Letter from the wild” reflected the disgust about urban civilization. In his early fictions “Wild grapes”, “Hwasandaegi”, “The seashore village” nature is changed from simple space to great positive world. Nature gives a comfort to human.
