Abstract
Research Purpose: Understanding the behavior of knowledge sharing avoidance in online community activities.
Research Methods: Survey data of 316 office workers participating in online community activities were obtained and empirically analyzed through the SPSS program.
Results in Research: First, four variables were found to be significant in knowledge sharing avoidance attitude: psychological ownership, interpersonal competitiveness, fear of negative reaction and disregard for online relationships. Second, the characteristics of knowledge exchange in online communities, exchange frequency and community purpose, influence on the attitude toward knowledge sharing avoidance. Third, the attitude and the subject norm toward knowledge sharing avoidance had a significant impact on the intention to avoid knowledge sharing in online community activities.
Research Conclusion: The results suggest that knowledge sharing avoidance in online community activities may manifest differently from that in offline communities, as evidenced by the unexpected reverse influences of psychological ownership and the frequency of knowledge sharing. Therefore, future studies with more rigorous designs are needed to further investigate this phenomenon.
